Hi
I work in a call centre in Auckland and on a fixed term contract that keeps getting extended (3 times now). I want to be permanent but dont wanna make a fuss. Its really stressfull not knowing if i'll have a job every few months. Can my employer do this???

Fixed terms are supposed to be used for situations where funding for the role is limited to a certain amount or duration. Sometimes there is a strong case for someone to be made permanent if the employer is simply trying to keep their staff on a more casual basis. You could approach your company about this, and if that doesn't try mediation. If there is still no resolution, if you had a good case you can go to the Employment Relations Authority. www.era.govt.nz/If you need additional support, unions can be a great help.
